Part 1.
The Reasoning Test

Please ensure the candidate has blank paper and pen, they will need this for the Maths section. Please tell the candidate:

This test consists of some vocabulary, maths and picture questions. Some sections are longer than others. The questions are designed to see if you find this kind of thinking easy or hard – there is no pass or fail in this kind of test. Just do as much as you can in the time provided. Any questions?

On the UKiset Login document you will have received three pieces of information required for this test:

  1. The Test Account (A-E)
  2. The Test Account Pass Key
  3. The Candidate’s unique token

Click on the candidate’s Test Account below, this will open the test in a new window. Enter the Pass Key when instructed. Then enter the unique token.

Once all sections are complete the candidate’s responses will be automatically uploaded and the window can be closed. Return to this page to move on to the English test below.

Part 2.
The English Test

English reading and listening

Cambridge Assessment English, Cambridge University

Requirements:

internet-enabled computer – with sound, headphone

The Cambridge English Test, called CEST, is a test of reading and listening skills in English. The test is split into two parts and is entirely completed online. The candidate will need headphones for this section. Please test the sound on the computer before the test starts. 
 
The candidate will need to enter a Username, Password and Institution ID provided by the invigilator and click Log in. The candidate must be careful when typing the login details as they are case sensitive. If the Username is entered incorrectly 5 times, the candidate will be locked out and unable to take the test. If this happens, please inform the invigilator who will need to contact the institution for assistance with unlocking the account.
 
When logged in, the candidate will need to accept the Terms and Conditions, and then click the arrow on the CEST Listening box on the following page. The candidate must complete all mandatory fields indicated by a red asterisk (*) and click Submit. 
Candidates will see the Session Details screen and must click Open to start the test.
 
AI Invigilation Pre-test Checks
Talview AI inivigilation tool will now be used to monitor the candidate during the tests. Before the candidate can start the test they must agree to Talview’s Terms and Conditions, privacy policy and data capture, and then click Proceed. The candidate must then allow Talview to access the microphone and web camera (candidate may need to click ‘Allow’ access to popups to proceed to the screen share step). The candidate should then follow the instructions to share their screen and have their photo taken to complete the pre-test check.
 
When all the checks are complete the candidate will receive confirmation that the Pre-flight Check was successful. They can then proceed to start the test.
The test will time itself, there is no need to stop the test after an alloted time. Once the candidate completes the first test, they must return to the homepage to start the CEST Reading test.
 
Once completed, tests will automatically move to the Completed Tab of the homepage. Please ensure all browsers are closed when the candidate completes each test.
 
Advice for Candidates: This test will take about 80 minutes and consists of some listening and reading questions. Read the instructions carefully on each page. Try to answer as many questions as you can in the time provided. Return here for instructions on the final part of the test below.

Part 3.
The English Essay

Expository handwritten essay, assessing expressive language skills in English

Requirements:

Lined paper, pens

At a desk, please provide the candidate with a pen (black or blue ink) and lined paper.

Please give the candidate the following instructions:

I am going to provide you with a topic that you will have 30 minutes to write about in English. Try to make your essay as interesting as possible and write as much as you can. Remember that spelling, punctuation and grammar are important, and try to allow some time to check your work at the end. Any questions?

Then provide the candidate with the topic provided on the UKiset Login instructions. The invigilator is in charge of timing the test. If you wish to provide a timer for the candidate, click on the button below to provide an on-screen count down. Please provide the candidate with a 10 minute and 5 minute warning towards the end of the test.

At the end of the test collect the papers. Please check that the candidate’s name and the essay topic are on each sheet of paper.
